*A little bit about me...
Greetings!
My name is Jan Carrie Steven and I have a passion for helping graduating students, or people making career changes find work that is meaningful, well-paying, and exciting. Teaching English in South Korea meets all of these criteria so it is a joy for me to assist in “taking you from here to there.”
I have a variety of interests in addition to ASK Now. I work part-time in Counseling and Support Programs at Laurentian University (MA, RSW); I have a small shop - “Small Things: Arts, Books, Crafts and Delights”; I serve as a lay preacher and pastoral care visitor for All Peoples United Church; I am a dedicated volunteer at the Greater Sudbury Animal Shelter; and I love to write stories (columnist for www.soonews.ca) and read thick books.
My hubby, Laurence, is an English professor at Laurentian University and two of my four children have degrees in English and are teaching English in Korea and loving it! (My oldest child is a pharmacist and my youngest is still in university.) Also at our household you will find a couple of student boarders, dogs, cats, and fish. It’s never boring!
I have a deep and abiding respect and affection for the Korean people – they are hard-working and hospitable. Their history predates that of many countries, and they have survived wars not of their own making, and come out thriving.
My motto comes from Dr. Albert Schweitzer –physician, organist, theologian and great humanitarian: “I don't know what your destiny will be, but one thing I do know: the only ones among you who will be really happy are those who have sought and found how to serve.”
Best! Always!
Jan
